SKILLS

The outdoors is there for everyone to enjoy and the benefits are huge! There is nothing easier than to slip on a pair of shoes and head out for a walk but if you want to challenge yourself then gaining some extra skills can make a huge difference. The really great news is they are transferable too – the confidence you gain as you feel comfortable to try something new in the outdoors can help change the way you feel in other aspects of your life too.

In the 1960’s Joe worked as an Instructor at Whitehall Outdoor Centre in the Peak District teaching countless young people new skills in what for them, was often an alien environment. It was incredibly rewarding both ways with customers popping into the Joe Brown shops years later to reminisce about their time spent with the “human fly”.

“The next best thing to climbing is to talk about it.” Joe Brown

Get down to the nitty gritty of holds, strength and most importantly; psyche. Learn to transfer your indoor skills outdoors, hone your belay skills, transfer your rock skills onto ice or most importantly; learn to fall in love with climbing.
